hi starstruck,

everybody can restart his contest game everytime!

All saves from your first game will be deleted, if you send a new save from 1300.

The only condition is, that you have to send your last save for the Contest before 2008-01-01 0 EST. ;)

If anybody wondered about my absence: it was due to a sudden defekt that required drydocking. Unfortunately it meant that I had to postpone my expedition to Vielitz to the Patrician Seminar.
We all know that education is expensive so paying the equivalent to one year's graduate tuition plus book expenses to go to Vielitz to learn seamless building seemed feasable to me :D

I will be in London October 10/11 (ETA 10/10 0730, depature 10/12 at 0600) :wave2:

I was going to ask how Vielitz went ... I guess someone else can answer! Sorry to hear you missed your trip. :(

I'm in Oxford now, so about an hour + half from London. I'll be working full time in October (and you didn't arrange a convenient weekend), but if you're interested I can see closer to the date if I can maybe get a day out.

I was going to ask how Vielitz went ...

Hi Starstruck,

this is the wrong thread, I know, but the answer to your question, and I could not find any better.

Hansetag in Vielitz was very good, well organised and smooth (small wonder: Vielitz is in Prussia, and Hopsing was in charge :D).

Friday: Arrival at Vielitz; barbecue, meet the Hanseatic League.

Saturday we enjoyed a boat trip (lake Gudelack, beautiful); I brought a Jolly Roger, no enemy ships were taken, though (only snaikkas, not worth the effort). All travellers disembarked safely.

Lunch at restaurant "Seeperle" (pearl of the lake); close-by fishing hut supplied me with fresh pike-perch.

Back to the salt-mines: I wanted to learn about pirates and building; and I found what I desired. Frank, Ugh!, and Gesil, only to mention a few, were very patient and kind.

Needless to say, I did not get much sleep. Comfy hammock, though .

Weather was fine all the time.

I'd like to announce the following: The members of this convention decided: From now on, pending further notice, Hansetag will take place every third week-end in August.

The rest is easily told:

 :bier: :help: :klug: :ahn: :trink1: :150: :flirt: :coffee: .

Sunday: :abschied:

Best regards,

Charlotte

PS: photos - yep. I hope Hopsing will see to that soon.

@Charlotte
Thankyou! Sounds good :).

So, does Ugh! answer to "Ugh!" in person?

Two questions for all:
1. How are Wasa / Ugh etc. (possibly many others) completing so many Aldermann pirate missions?

The only way I've worked out to do them is a bit annoying:
Trigger a pirate (pirate or escort or patrol mission)
Fight and flee
Go to the Aldermann office and take a mission, s/loading until getting the one with the right name.
Fight again and capture/kill the pirate.

I haven't been able to get the pirate names matching if I accept a mission before the pirate is "on the board" - which means this process needs two fights instead of one, and occasionally the pirate can't be refought and sails away. Is there a simpler way?

2. Is there any benefit to doing more than three Aldermann pirate missions?

@ Starstruck

I will answer, but only in german:

Dann den nächsten Enterkampf beginnen, and so on.

In my opinion, there isn't any benefit, it's just for fun. :pirat2:

@ Wasa:
bei mir funktioniert das icht. es gibt keine moeglichkeit aus dem kampffenster rauszugehen, oder ich habe beafsteak tomaten auf den augen.

@ Starstruck:
it appears that in the German version (P II) thee is a way to leave the battle map. Any such action has eluded me so far. In any case, as you do, accept an escort mission. SAVE. Fast forward until the pirate attacks and let the captain deal with it. SAVE. Enter the am office and look for notorious pirate mission. In 50% of the cases you might find the actual pirate’s name. I had more success when doing revenge missions. Use a convoy comprising a 70 hulk and a 35 crayer armed with bombards and cannons plus 50% spare cutlasses. With captains of n/4/4, or better, skills, they should win on auto battle.
In any case, you should have sufficient time to do the 3 missions prior to the am elections. If you are actively blocking known pirate-spawning ports you can forget getting some missions from them. I had not a single pirate emerge from any of the three November 1300 to March 1301

@ bizpro

Now, being crazy , I'm aiming to build as many walls as at all possible in 1301 ... :titan:

I guess then I am crazy too. Except for 2 strugglers that were completed in January 1302, all starting towns had their 2nd walls placed by the end of 1301 and the same for the 3rd walls by the end of 1302. In addition, all recognized NPTs had their 2nd walls placed.
There is a drawback to being crazy: your expansion will be hampered since your contractors are busy with walls. However, not having to worry about loosing 40-day plants or production has it's benefits :D

I think I had four 2nd walls and two 3rd walls on my first run through of 1301 (that controversial save ;) )

It never occurred to me to try taking the AM mission while the AI was fighting :O. Good idea. Failing that the method I outlines works fine; I used it at least four times (2 or 3 on first runthrough, twice on the latest one - I killed a pirate nest for my third mission). But opening Ugh's save and seeing the whole string of them ... !

BTW, I usually just run a well armed crayer for all missions unless I know I'm getting a hulk - and still then if I don't have an armed cog handy. In 1300 my 31-sailor crayers win against crayers on autosave, and if attacked by a hulk I fight manually and end up with a 20-30 life hulk. Good for expanding shipyards  )

Yes, he does. "Ugh is an onomatopoeic representation of an aspirated sigh or gasp, used as an interjection to express repugnance, annoyance, aggravation, irritation, disgust, boredom or horror", missing the exclamation mark.

Sorry, I can't answer that question - I'm still busy analysing saves.

old 1301 save

I have now submitted my rerun 1300 save.
Which leads me to ask - is my old 1301 save (the one with 26.5% rich and 37.8% wealthy) of value to anyone? It won't now be submitted & posted in the normal course of things - and is likely to be surpassed - but it seemed to intest people ...

Any suggestions?
